IPL 2021: Chennai Superkings Ropes In Jason Behrendorff As Replacement Of Josh Hazlewood

As per the official IPL Media Advisory released on April 9, 2021, Chennai Superkings has appointed Jason Behrendorff as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood.

Hazlewood was about to join the yellow brigade but decided to skip the league totally at the last moment. He said he would stay at home and take a rest due to covid fatigue.

“It’s been a long 10 months in bubbles and quarantine at different times, so I decided to have a rest from cricket and spend some time at home and in Australia in the next two months. We’ve got a big winter ahead. The West Indies is going to be a long tour, with Bangladesh (T20 tour) potentially thrown on the end of that. Then potentially the T20 World Cup leading into the Ashes, so it’s a big 12 months,” Hazlewood had told Cricket Australia.

Speaking of the new replaced player Jason Behrendorff, the 30-year-old fast bowler has appeared for Perth Scorchers in last year's BBL game. His T20 career displays 90 wickets scalped with an economy rate of 7.20.

He had also played for the Mumbai Indians squad for the IPL year 2019, sweeping five wickets with an economy rate of 8.68. His scores also show interesting wickets of star players like Ambati Raidu and Suresh Raina.

Needless to say, Behrendorff can prove to be Chennai's big wicket-taker. However, according to the insights he won’t be available for the first two matches of Chennai because he would have to undergo 7 days of mandatory quarantine.
