IPL 2021: Good News For IPL Fans! Matches To Go As Per Schedule In Mumbai- Says Ganguly

BCCI President has just announced that IPL matches will go as scheduled and everything will go as planned with necessary covid-related precautions.

“We are keeping a close eye on the developments. We are totally committed to Covid-19 guidelines. There is no possibility to shift the matches from the five venues, including Mumbai. In fact, operations have been smooth in the two matches played so far in Wankhede without any hiccups. Night curfews and weekend curfews seem to be a blessing in disguise as far as IPL operation is concerned given the huge spur in Covid 19 cases in Maharashtra and Mumbai,” a BCCI official told Insidesport.co

With the rapid influx of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, the government has issued a lockdown plus Section 144 from April 14 to May 2, as the state is currently grappling with the worse hit cases of Covid-19, CM Uddhav Thackery announced a nationwide lockdown. Under this only essential items will be open, and the rest will remain on tight lockdown.

"Local train and bus services for essential services only, petrol pumps, financial institutions associated with SEBI and construction work to continue, hotel/restaurants to remain closed only take-away, home deliveries allowed," Maharastra CM said.

However, the strict regulations will not get in tune with the matches, because as per the insiders, IPL has been given a “special permit” for this lockdown-like state. Even after the state was in night curfew before this lockdown, the IPL players were given permission to practice late at night, though under scrutiny and strict bio-security bubbles.

As of now, the lockdown will not affect the matches of the IPL in Wankhede stadiums. A total of 10 matches is to be played in Mumbai as per the schedule, out of which 2 have already been played. So a remainder of 8 matches is to be further seen in the coming days. These matches will be played at 7:30 pm and the last match of IPL in Mumbai Stadium will be held on 25th April.
